Broad new surveillance powers approved by Congress this month could allow the Bush administration to conduct spy operations that go well beyond wiretapping to include — without court approval — certain types of physical searches on American soil and the collection of Americans’ business records, Democratic Congressional officials and other experts said.
Way to go, Dem Congress. You handed a lame-duck president with a Napolean complex and an abysmal record on violating Constitutional rights and claiming executive privilege carte blanche to spy on and terrorize his own citizens.
Given our past issues with this administration on precisely these types of surveillance violations, when did you decide it was not a good idea to read the bill before passing it?

Yeah, the Dems still have alot of work to do to prove that they are a viable alternative to the Republicans. At this point, they can easily prove how bad the Republicans have been, but they still don't have alot to say about what they'd do differently. I'll probably vote for the leading Democrat anyway just to get the Republicans out, but all it would take would be a strong moderate Republican to give them a run for their money.
People expected them to really challenge the Bush administration after the last election, and they really haven't done as much as they could have. Especially since future generations are very liekly to ask why we didn't impeach the loser.
